Detox
Detox! This is my focus this month. Years ago, back when my dad was a practicing physician, he said that too many people focused on detox when he didn't think it was necessary. He said the body was built to take foreign substances out through the liver for elimination and that system works well. This was over 30 years ago when he told me this. Naturally, him being a physician, his word was like God.
Fast forward to 2021, my body basically broke down and I was in a debilitated state. I was internally overrun with various types of toxins. Most notably, mold. Because my cells shut down, my detox pathways were not functioning optimally. It has been my experience that we should all be working on supporting the detox system. There are babies being born with more than 250 chemicals found within the umbilical cord. We are exposed to many toxins throughout the day in our homes and our work environment. Our food, whether it be animals, plants or processed, carry a variety of toxins our body weren’t exposed to a hundred years ago.
We want to make sure that we are moving our blood to help lymphatic circulation, with exercise, body work, yoga, sauna, dry brushing, etc because the lymphatic system doesn't have its own pumping system. It works along with movement and blood flow. This system takes toxins to our liver or kidney’s to be eliminated. If everything is functioning correctly.
It's important to stay hydrated! Two of the main way toxins exit the body are through urine and feces, both of which need plenty of hydration. And…
Eat lots of fiber! Fiber helps bind the toxins in bile (from the liver) to be sent out of the body for elimination. Use various herbs to help assist with detoxification. Cilantro and parsley are great detoxifying herbs!
Finally, limit your exposure to toxins. It's hard. No one's going to be 100% perfect in avoiding all toxins. Do what you have control over. Listen to the experts and visit the environmental working group to learn more in avoiding toxins. www.ewg.org.

Health Tip for the month: How many plants do you consume in a week? Work your way to 30 different plants per week. Plants have many nutrients, antioxidants and fiber that modern day diets are lacking.
