Welcome

As B.J. Palmer once said “the power that made the body heals the body” as long as we’re giving it the ability for success.
Welcome to Wellness With Joy! This past year has been extra busy. Over the several years I’ve developed an interest in how food is medicine and how poor food quality is making people feel low energy, depressed, and causing dysbiosis within the body.
After some research, I decided to enroll in a 12-month course in holistic nutrition at the Nutritional Therapy Association. They’ve been in business for 20+ years in taking a bio-individual approach to nutrition, as well as lifestyle practices. I spent well over 500 hours learning about the NTA’s “foundations of health” which include nutrient dense diet, sleep, stress, digestion and blood sugar. When one or more areas of your foundation is out of balance, it can impact the other areas. I am now a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, or as NYS laws allows, a certified nutritionist.
Additionally, I realize how difficult is it for people to make the changes they know are good for them. Therefore, I also enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition for a Health Coach certificate. I have my in-training certificate and able to work as a student before I graduate in January 2024. Health coaching supports people in exploring their wellness goals through bio-individual foods and lifestyle practices. It is a collaborative investigation in finding what works best for the client.
In my practice, I’ll be focusing on gut health. The digestive tract is the only part of the body that is exposed to the outside elements. It’s important to have a strong system for quality health.
Tip for this month:
SIT DOWN AND SLOW DOWN
Eating in a relaxed state will help the body go into a parasympathetic state, the “rest and digest”. The name says it all. If you imagine a bunny running from a wolf, its body is not going to be digesting. In our busy lives, the boss, co-worker, kids, work schedule, social media, TV, etc. prevents our body getting into a deep and relaxed state. Take a few deeps breaths before eating, say a prayer or gratitude practice, and eat slowly. Digestion starts in the brain, smelling and enjoying your food primes your digestive organs for quality digestion.
